Too scary to think about!
Actually fewer than you might think, a lot of roads I hit were devoid of people for huge stretches.

Percentage of riding NOT done on interstates: 75%
That’s impressive over 6K miles.

We did 1700 a few weeks ago , and I honked my horn once the entire trip, and that was to alert my buddy that we were slowing down and making a left and he was busy looking at the landscape.
My first day back, I used it twice on the way to work.
Even if the “non highway” route isn’t scenic, it’s void of busybodies
and big trucks.

Truckee is a neat town. It’s basically a vacation town for Bay Area residents so it has a lot of vacation rentals and entitlement. Regardless it’s a great location and plenty of excellent restaurants.

Two questions:
1. What kinda of gear were you wearing? (primarily interested in the torso)
2. How worn out were you in the even ing? I’ve do ne a few rides over 100 miles (~140 miles this past Saturday) and find myself fairly tired physically, but mentally drained. And I have no problem doing long distances in a car.

But... how many bears?
Awesome, I look forward to seeing the full download soon!

Yeahi think I used my horn twice. Once for a dumbass and once for a deer. I found revving the engine to be more effective with deet.

I assumed it was where people who work at Tahoe live

Dainese perforated leather jacket with full armor, Alpinestars armored jeans, Rev’it mesh/leather gloves, AGV K5s helmet, and Dainese riding shoes.
No more than a normal workday. Lots of stops of at least ten minutes, walking around, stretching. So the main thing I've find to make a huge difference is good earplugs. Seriously. I use the nonoise ones, but cheap foamies work great too.
![]() 07/11/2018 at 16:38 |

All of them! Or that's what I assume because I didn't see any and I didn't go there. Ergo, they're all there.

Maybe in the apartments. Houses aren’t cheap.

So much jealous!
Hurricane is such a strange little town. We stayed there on our overland road trip.

Pretty neat though!

Sick homey!
48 mpg.. better than a prius.. and that thing is probably a bit more fun and better sounding too....
But dude...! Co was your favorite state, but LEADVILLE was your favorite town.. tisk tisk.. should of reached out to a local! The only thing leadville has is epic mexican food thanks to all the laborers that commute to Vail every morning...
You should of checked out the San Juans!!
Next time!!!!
But looked like an epic trip!
I was following you on Ins

I don’t do any rides outside of town without foamies. But now I’m curious if m y cheap Bell Vortex is an issue. I have an HJC on extended loan from a friend (who is bike-less) that I may need to try again.

Oh man. Now that is a roadtrip. Did you meet up with a ton of people or just kinda do your own thing?
![]() 07/11/2018 at 18:00 |

To be fair I barely hit any towns in CO! I just liked how outdoorsy people there seemed. Wanted to come through Boulder but I ended up heading south from Laramie towards kremmling and basically over to Gunnison from there if I remember right. I definitely want to check out more.

Quality helmet makes a big difference. You should check out some helmet reviews on the Fort 9 YouTube channel.

I was back in Minnesota for 5 days and hung out with a bunch of family and friends there. Otherwise meet up with a friend from high school in Vegas and that was it.

Well, that’s a pretty cool way to cross Colorado though... kudos

Earplugs are KEY at highway speeds...
![]() 07/11/2018 at 18:16 |

I’ll put up maps of my route later. The whole thing was pretty great.

Also the bike itself makes a big difference. I couldn’t do this on the sports ter I had before, or any Harley for that matter. Every bike has a different riding position and suspension and it all makes a big difference.

Hey, hopefully you enjoyed the weather we’ve been having recently! You should have stopped by Feldmann and put my car back together. They finished it today, just about a month and a half after it arrived there. It sounds like a crazy trip, especially on a bike. I want to do something similar with t he S600, though I’m not sure if I trust it to make it lol.
![]() 07/11/2018 at 20:54 |

How did you manage to stay on a sport bike for 6k miles?
![]() 07/11/2018 at 21:38 |
|
Lol the day I tried to leave MN was 7 0+mph wind and rain day. Rode in that for 20 minutes and was soaked through my rain gear! Ended up stopping for breakfast, waiting it out, there going back to my dad’s house to throw everything in the dryer for a couple hours!
What was going on with your car?
![]() 07/11/2018 at 21:39 |
|
It’s actually a really comfortable riding position. Mostly upright, great seat. Comfort isn’t an issue at all. It’s no cruiser or touring bike, but this thing fits me perfectly.

Just that tire that I hit back in May. Apparently they wound up replacing the radiator again, along with the oil cooler and a bunch of the supporting fittings. Then they ordered the non AMG bumper so we had to wait for the right one to come in. They actually sold my first loaner out from under me a few weeks ago, so they gave me an E300. I got a track day coupon out of courtesy though, which is nice. I’m on vacation now, but I should be picking it up Saturday morning. The E300 is a nice little car, but I want my V12 back lol. I’ve been thinking about getting more into the motorcycle scene but I’m not sure of what I want yet. How did you decide on your bike?
![]() 07/12/2018 at 00:59 |
|
Oh gotcha. It can be rough trying to make sure all the correct parts have been ordered and replaced for jobs like that.
Do it! How did I decide? I wanted something fun, practical, comfortable, capable, and good looking. Always thought monsters were one of the best looking bikes around. It was between that, a street triple, and an xsr900. The deciding factor was getting this one for 3k off. I would’ve been happy with any of them. But I really love this thing. It fits me perfect physically and I love the way it rides and handles and just how capable it is no matter what I make it do.

Fort9 is an awesome channel ! I’m sad the tested series seems to have gotten blocked by the manufacturers.

Yeah, I don’t know if my 37 year old UJM (Yamaha XJ650 Maxim) is helping me that much.

I have a S hadow 600 now which is fine for putzing around town, but I really want to do like an 82 GL1100 cafe style build. I just think the old Goldwings look so good with the fairings striped. Something like this build
![]() 07/12/2018 at 10:06 |

Upgrades and modifications! Maybe bar risers or different bars. Maybe the seat. Suspension rebuild
![]() 07/12/2018 at 10:06 |
|
Did it get blocked? The destructive testing is one of my favorites!
![]() 07/12/2018 at 10:08 |

That looks fantastic!
![]() 07/12/2018 at 12:06 |

There’s been a back pedaling since it started, with some comments that the companies didn’t really like what he was doing, and I haven’t seen a destructive test in quite a while.
Also, the XJ
already has plenty of mods, mostly ae
sthetic, but it includes flatter bars, and a modified seat (with some extra padding) I haven’t touched the suspension mostly since I’m not sure what i would change. The rear could have some more dampening maybe...

It has been a while now that you mention it. Lame. I know it’s not exactly scientific but you can see a clear difference in quality from one product to the next. And it’s good entertainment!
Your ergonomic triangle on that bike might not be right for you
